Sophie lives and works in Brighton and with the sea as a backdrop, she is surrounded by an ever-changing environment, which is explored through her fluid and experimental style of painting.

Travel continually influences her work and is a recurring theme running through her kaleidoscopic paintings. Memories of travelling through South America are a constant source of reference, where the stunning landscape took her on a journey through deserts and glaciers, to ramshackled seaside towns. Combining these factors she allows her paintings to take on a life of their own, as they metamorphose into landscapes full of hazy memories, layers of colour, areas of solid form, mark making and motifs.

The abstract and experimental nature of Sophie’s paintings allows viewers to respond to them in their own way, as she creates a playground for the imagination.

Last summer she took to the beach, brushes and canvases in hand, and a new series of outdoor works were painted on location, in Sussex.
