“I see painting as life long process, involving contemplation, reflection and production. My chosen way of working inevitably leads to a certain complexity of content that reveals itself with time and familiarity. The paintings do not simply record what is seen but also what might be seen by the inner eye. With the interplay of colour and form they represent sensations and tensions that are not immediately visible. The paintings are abstract, in the sense that formal visual elements are placed in a medium of marks and surfaces to combine into a rhythm and balance that is visually satisfying. Much of my work relies on a distillation of memories, whether they are places or a sensation experienced.”
